The MBA in the Global Energy Industry, taught jointly by the three institutions, has been selected in the category of Talent Development

The alliance among ICADE Business School, Iberdrola and Strathclyde Business School, with their MBA in the Global Energy Industry, was a finalist in the EFMD Excellence in Practice Awards 2016, in the category of Talent Development. The MBA in the Global Energy Industry, which is a product of the joint development by Comillas and Strathclyde, has the objective of training future professionals in the Energy Industry Sector. The University participates in this Masters Degree Program through two of its Schools and Faculties with the most tradition and prestige in their respective areas: the ICAI School of Engineering and the ICADE Business School.

“The Excellence in Practice 2016 contest has allowed us to strengthen our relations and to bring them closer with our corporative client, Iberdrola, and an international partner which is very strategic for our Faculty and Business School, Strathclyde Business School. The experience of working intensively on a multi-national and multi-disciplinary team has been useful in consolidating trust and the commitment which characterizes our alliance, laying the foundations for future collaboration”, ascertained Robert Robinson, Vice-Dean for International Relations in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (ICADE).

In the opinion of the Director of the program, Andrés Ramos, this award is a positive stimulus to the efforts which have been made, above all, since it is relevant in its innovative format. “In the MBA Program, we are collaborating at two Universities, Strathclyde y Comillas, and within Comillas, Professors from ICAI and ICADE are guided by the goal of adapting the general MBA to the requirements for training of managers with great potential at a global company like Iberdrola. The students come from six countries, and go each month to Glasgow or Madrid to attend classes, taught by Professors from both universities. “This MBA has enriched all those participating in its creation and development to some extent”, he explained.

The awards

The European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), one of the most prestigious associations of Business Schools in the world, recognizes those Business Schools and top-notch companies found in some 81 countries through the recognition provided by its awards for excellence and innovation from its partners. The application as a candidate for the EFMD Excellence in Practice Awards was presented by ICADE Business School and Strathclyde, since only partners of the EFMD can do so. This is the first time that Comillas ICADE has presented a project for these awards. The winner in the category of Talent Development, in which ICADE Business School was competing, was the consortium led by Manchester Business School. The other finalists were a group directed by the World Economic Forum and five prestigious Business Schools (INSEAD, Columbia University, London Business School, University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and China Europe International Business School ), and Repsol and Repsol Training. Moreover, the best projects in the categories of Executive Development, Organizational Development and Professional Development received awards.

“Our participation provides us with visibility and an international projection within one of the most important accreditation agencies in the field of business studies. Personallly, I was impressed by the attention given to quality and the prestige of the other finalists in our category. Five institutions presented a case together, leaders in our sector, such as Wharton, Columbia, London Business School, INSEAD and CEIBS. We were in excellent company”, stated Robinson.
